SFgate reports Internet advertising revenue, fueled by increases in classified ads, lead generation and display advertising, grew by 35 percent last year to $16.9 billion. In the fourth quarter alone, $4.8 billion was spent on online advertising, a 33 percent increase over the same quarter a year earlier and the most for any quarter, according to a report by the Interactive Advertising Bureau.
More advertisers are flocking to Internet and this trend proves that big advertisers are recognizing Internet as another mainstream media to reach their target customers. Internet offers some unique advantages like specific marketing, intent marketing which is not available with the traditional media. More advertisers means a bigger pie to share among the internet publishers.

A group of researchers led by the University of Tokyo has broken Internet speed records - twice in two days.
Operators of the high-speed Internet2 network announced Tuesday that the researchers on Dec. 30 sent data at 7.67 gigabits per second, using standard communications protocols. The next day, using modified protocols, the team broke the record again by sending data over the same 20,000-mile path at 9.08 Gbps.
