Internet ad revenue up 35% to $17 billion

SFgate reports

Internet advertising revenue, fueled by increases in classified ads, lead generation and display advertising, grew by 35 percent last year to $16.9 billion.

In the fourth quarter alone, $4.8 billion was spent on online advertising, a 33 percent increase over the same quarter a year earlier and the most for any quarter, according to a report by the Interactive Advertising Bureau.

More advertisers are flocking to Internet and this trend proves that big advertisers are recognizing Internet as another mainstream media to reach their target customers. Internet offers some unique advantages like specific marketing, intent marketing which is not available with the traditional media. More advertisers means a bigger pie to share among the internet publishers.

These figures are very encouraging for Internet marketeers because it shows that money can be made online. The revenue in Internet advertising will probably continue to increase so more people will try their luck on the Internet.
